Food as Medicine - diet disease health nutrition

Five Flavours Food Guide (click on link to see preview of guide)

Here are a few health tips & quotes to wet your appetite.

Food as Medicine is being talked about on the television, radio and in the newspapers more and more these days, for example in Channel 4's Food Hospital and Jamie Oliver's crusade on school meals which reflected how the behaviour and health of children could be dramatically improved, simply through the food that they ate. A health promoting diet can alleviate disease, improve health and nutrition for everyone.

Food has been used to heal the body for thousands of years in many cultures and civilisations and Chinese medicine has been one of the major contributors. Chinese medicine views ill health as an imbalance of energy flow in the body and with the careful guidance of the Practitioner, these imbalances can be healed through simple yet effective changes in the diet. REMEMBER, food nourishes our blood and our blood nourishes every cell in our body.

The Practitioner, Wendy Morrison, is passionate about empowering people to learn about their bodies, and how they can help themselves towards a healthier life. The current trend of providing calorific information, how much saturated or unsaturated fat and sugar is contained in food, what vitamins, minerals and general nutritional properties is not enough. Chinese medicine offers another dimension to food. We human beings are all very different, therefore one diet cannot suit everyone.

What happens during the Dietary Consultation

During the Dietary Consultation, of 11/2 - 2 hours, your existing diet and general well-being, lifestyle approaches and emotional health will be explored:

The pulse and tongue diagnosis provide lots of information, the tongue and pulse are microcosms of the whole body. This diagnosis reflects the internal energetic picture: including quality and condition of Qi (pronounced ‘chi’) - loosely translated to ‘vitality’ or ‘energy’, Blood and Bodily Fluids. These are known as 'the Three Treasures'.

We will establish if you have particular health problems or want to simply improve your current approach to food and consequently your overall health and well being.

Nb. It is important to note that under no circumstances will any conventional medication be changed by the Practitioner without consultation with the Client’s GP.

If applicable, your blood pressure will be taken during each consultation i.e. if you have high blood pressure, and a record will be taken of cholesterol results (if available from a recent medical). If the cholesterol level is above the recommended level of 6 m.mol, then a further cholesterol check will be required at the end of the study period of 4 - 6 months (obtained via the Client’s GP or Employee Well-being Policy).

Emotional well-being will be explored for example whether you experience anxiety, worry or depression.

Prior to the consultation, you will be asked to complete a 7-day food/lifestyle diary. This will then be a good basis to start working from.

The above information is a summary of the Consultation process.

Will the dietary advice fit into my lifestyle?

The dietary recommendations will be achievable without the use of vitamin or mineral supplements, using simple and easy to follow suggestions about food which is fresh, locally grown, organic where possible, using foods that will benefit YOUR specific body ....as one diet doesn't fit all! The dietary advice is intended to work WITH your life not against it and it's all about enjoying your food and your renewed energy and sense of well-being.
